What is Oregano Essential Oil?

Oregano essential oil is steam distilled from the wild oregano (Origanum) plant. Oregano oil is yellow in colour and has a herbal and peppery aroma.

Our oregano essential oil is not a food grade oil! It cannot be used in food and it is not suitable for internal use.

Origin & History

Oregano is a herb that is native to the Mediterranean region and it grows in the hot, dry mountains. The use of the wild oregano plant can be traced back to the 4th century in Ancient Greece. Traditionally, it was mainly used for health and medicinal purposes.

The Ancient Greek and Romans also used oregano for wedding ceremonies, as lucky charms, in food and it was planted around homes to protect from evil.

As time went on, wild oregano spread through Europe and made its way to China through the spice trade. It was popular for its medicinal benefits and it is still used today for its antioxidant properties in wellness.

Today, wild oregano is made into a high concentration essential oil that is used in aromatherapy and cosmetic products.

How to Store Your Essential Oils

Oregano essential oil should be stored out of direct sunlight, in a cool dry place. This helps prolong the quality of the oil and stops it from degrading over time. Make sure to keep the organic oregano essential oil out of reach of children.

Safety Precautions

Wild oregano essential oil should not be applied directly to the skin as it could cause irritation on sensitive skin. Always dilute a few drops of organic oregano oil in a carrier oil to safely apply it to the skin.

We recommend doing a patch test with the diluted lavandin essential oil on a small area of skin before applying topically to ensure there are no reactions to the oil on skin.

Our organic oregano oil is for external use only! It is not a food grade essential oil and must not be ingested. Ensure the oregano oil is kept out of reach of children.

We recommend consulting a healthcare professional before using oregano oil if you are pregnant.
