What is Nutmeg Essential Oil?

Nutmeg essential oil is extracted through steam distillation from the seeds of the myristica fragrans tree. The essential oil is light yellow in colour and it has a warm, spicy aroma with woody undertones.

Despite the name, nutmeg is a seed not a nut. The nutmeg tree is native to the Banda islands in Indonesia, also known as the Spice Islands. Nutmeg is a tropical evergreen tree that is now grown in India, Southeast Asia, North Australia and the Pacific Islands.

Nutmeg essential oil has a warm spicy scent and it is often used as a middle note in blends. It blends well with black pepper, clary sage, cinnamon, sweet orange, rosemary, geranium, cypress.

3 drops cinnamon oil

How to Store Nutmeg Essential Oil

It should be stored out of direct sunlight, in a cool dry place to help prolong the quality of the oil and stops it from degrading over time. Make sure to store your nutmeg essential oil out of reach of children.

Safety Precautions

Nutmeg essential oil must be diluted in a carrier oil before use. Simply add a few drops of the essential oil to a carrier oil of your choice, and then it is safe to use. It is a very concentrated oil and could cause skin irritation or allergic reactions if the undiluted oil is applied directly to the skin.

We recommend doing a patch test, on a small area of skin, with the diluted oil to check for any sensitivity or irritation.
