Why Make Homemade Gifts?

Making your own handmade gifts shows you have put thought and care into the gifts. I think we can all agree, it is much more meaningful to receive a homemade gift, rather than a store bought gift that everyone in the country has.
You can also personalise the gift for your loved ones, so you know they will love it!

Many homemade gifts are actually more affordable than similar, store bought products. Plus, it can be hard to find high quality, natural products that don’t use loads of chemicals.

1. Winter Bath Salts
Did you know it is so easy to make your own bath salts? It’s just salt, essential oils and a solubiliser.
This bath salt recipe has a beautiful orange aroma with a hint of cinnamon!

2. Snowflake Soap
For a beautiful and easy-to-make soap bar, you have to try this melt and pour soap recipe! It makes a wintery snowflake shaped soap bar with a fresh, minty aroma.

3. Christmas Cold Process Soap
If you are a cold process soap lover, this Christmas soap bar is perfect for you! We have used three colours and spiced essential oils to capture Christmas.

This candle recipe is 100% natural, but it is a bit more advanced as we are using natural colourants instead of regular candle dyes.

How to Personalise Your Gift
If you want to make your gift more special for your loved ones, you can use their favourite scents or their favourite colours!
Here’s a few other ways to personalise each recipe…
Winter Bath Salts
In this recipe we use epsom salts, which are great for the skin and they help relax the muscles and tension in the body.
If you don’t want to use just epsom salts, try this blend of epsom and Himalayan pink salt:
- Epsom salt 200g
- Himalayan pink salt - fine 300g
To capture the scent of Christmas, we have used orange essential oil and a hint of cinnamon! If you want to personalise the scent of the bath salts, try some other essential oils! See how to change the scent here.
Snowflake Soap
This soap recipe uses a shea butter soap base as it is super moisturising! But you can use whichever soap base you prefer. We recommend sticking to white coloured soap bases!
If you want to personalise the colour of the soap to their favourite colour, just add 10g of a mica powder!
We have used peppermint essential oil and pine essential oil to make a fresh, snowy aroma. If you want to personalise the scent of the soap, try some other essential oils! See how to change the scent here.
Christmas Cold Process Soap
This is Christmas in a soap bar! From the colours to the scent, this soap is perfect for this time of year.
However, it can be easily personalised. If you know people won’t like the spiced Christmas aroma, try some of our other essential oils. Read more on how to change essential oils here. Candy Cane Candle
This candle embodies a candy cane perfectly, from the classic red and white stripes to the iconic peppermint aroma.

How To Customise Essential Oils
If you are changing the essential oils, you must also check the IFRA document (it will look the like the image above).
You can find this on our website under ‘technical documents’ or click here. Look through the categories and find the one relating to the product you are making. For example, soap making products and bath salts are in category 9, and candles are in category 12.
If the IFRA usage rate says a percentage below the amount we recommended in the recipe, do not go above the IFRA usage rates. For example, the usage rate for cinnamon essential oil is 0.5% for soap, so you cannot add more than that to the recipe.
However, if the IFRA says a percentage above what we recommend in the recipe, or it says it is ‘Not Limited’, do not just add as much as you want. You can add the maximum amount we recommend in the recipe.
Here is a list of the maximum amounts you can add for each recipe:
- Winter bath salt recipe - you can add up to 15g of essential oils, which is 2.8%.
- Snowflake soap recipe - you can add up to 24g of essential oils, which is 2.3%.
- Christmas soap recipe - you can add up to 25g of essential oils, which is 2%.
- Candy cane candle recipe - you can add up to 18g of essential oils, which is around 5%.
